Recent revelations in scientific research have provided pet owners with the means to now save their beloved family pets from injuries and diseases that would have caused the pet to be euthanized in the not so distant past. The sad news is that when the unthinkable happens and a pet life hangs in the balance most pet owners find that they are unable to afford the often staggering price of the treatments which can range from $3000-$10000 and some cases even more, and are forced to euthanize their pets anyway. It is in these instances those pet owners wish they had the foresight to purchase a pet health insurance policy.

Pet health insurance is similar to human health insurance.

Pet owners who purchase pet health insurance plans from pet health insurance companies do so for a variety of reasons. They might be intrigued by the idea that they will be able to save on their pets annual trip to the vet or they might just be worried that if a serious health crisis develops they wont be able to afford the treatment,

Pet owners can pick from a variety of plans such as pet fatality/mortality insurance, major medical insurance, and basic medical insurance (policy names may vary from company to company.) Many pet health care insurance companies offer the option of a variety of additional riders to complement the pet health care insurance plan.

Mortality/fatality pet insurance is similar to human life insurance. The owner pays a premium every month the pet is alive in any event of its death the owner is reimbursed a predetermined amount of money. While the mortality/fatality insurance does not take the sting out of losing a beloved family pet it may help of any additional medical bills that accumulated at the end of your pet’s life. Many owners use the check to assist with purchasing a new family pet. One thing owners should be aware of when they possess a mortality/fatality pet insurance plan is that most companies require that the owner contact them before the pet is euthanized. They will often ask to speak to the veterinarian in charge of your pet’s case.

Basic medical health insurance typically covers veterinarian expenses such as accidents, non-elective surgeries, hospitalization, and illnesses. One popular insurance company offers a plan that pays from cuts to cancer up to $1000; most pet owners use this plan for emergencies only. Pet owners are advised to purchase a pet health care insurance plan as early in their pet’s life as possible. Many insurance companies and veterinarians point out that most freak accidents happen in the early years of a pet’s life. Owners should be aware that most pet health insurance plans do not cover genetic dis-orders that develop in certain breeds and some of the more expensive surgeries. Most insurance plans also will not touch pre-existing conditions.

Horse owners may want to consider purchasing a loss of use policy for their horses. A loss of use policy pays if the horse is injured so badly it is no longer able to be ridden or bred, but is not so badly injured to justify euthanizing the animal.

People who love and care for their pets understand the pain and worry people go through if their pets get sick- it raises concerns about proper care, balanced nutrition and health. There are some good pet health indicators which a person can monitor to keep a check on good health. These indicators are easy to identify. In the case of dogs and cats look for:
Coat- shiny and full.
Digestion- regular consistent motions.
Muscle and bone- no evidence of weakness or guarding against painful movement.
Activity- high level of activity.
Teeth- no tartar formation or cavities

Taking your pet to a veterinary surgeon for a regular check up is a good idea, especially for aging animals. However, if you identify any change or irregular behaviour in your pet it is wise to get it checked over. People can worry about how to take good care of their pet, and a daily routine will help with this. Just like children, your pets need care and consideration. An example of a regular routine for dogs should include:Â Toilet training (for young animals)Â A long daily walk. Bathing to maintain a fresh coat and reduce strong odours. Regular brushing, dependant on the breed. Play These activities will also strengthen the bond with your animal and make it easier to examine should you have any health concerns.

An essential part of pet health is diet. Giving your animal the correct food and nutrients is fundamental to its well being. Consistency too is important, although occasional variation in meals can make food more appealing and enjoyable. Many shops offer a diverse range of pet foods to promote pet health- a couple to look out for is Hills pet food and Royal Canin as they provide for the balanced nutrition every dog needs.

          <script type="text/javascript"

It is also worth noting that many pet shops and pet supply centres stock medicines for pet prescriptions (and non-prescription pet medication). If your animal should ever be taken ill it is a comfort to know that pet meds are easily available. Online stores tend to have the largest and most varied ranges – but look out for reputable brands such as Frontline and Drontal. They also supply different foods, medicines, toys, collars, beds, bowls and grooming brushes. Everything can be ordered from the comfort of your own home, with just a few clicks of the mouse.

However, don’t rule out high street shops completely. Good pet shops are great places to share ideas and get advice, and if your pet needs a full makeover or just a bit of trimming here and there you can always take them to a pet parlour.

Do you want to make a career out of taking care of pets? Perhaps you’d like to be a certified pet first aid expert, or the manager of a dog day camp or kennel. What ever you may be after, holistic pet care is a fantastic means of not only curing your dog, cat, horse or any other animal you have domesticated, but preventative practice to make sure your pet doesn’t get sick.

One of the most popular non-traditional pet care products that pet owners get their pets are garments, which include pet T-shirts, bandanas, coats, and even sweaters, which allow pet owners to show off their pets when they bring them outdoors for their exercise. Another example of such products includes car seats that allow pet owners to provide their pets with a comfortable way to travel.

On pet health

There are many companies that offer pet health insurance, and you should ask your Veterinarian what companies he or she recommends. The best pet health care insurance companies that offer services online are petplan. And as with human health care insurance, pet insurance pays the health care provider.

Just like human health care insurance, pet health care insurance pays for veterinary care and often for prescription medication as well. Almost all pet care insurance provides health cover that includes cuts, illnesses, accidents, abrasions and also dental expenses. A pet an addition member to a family not only brings the happiness and fun but lots of responsibility for its care and well-being regarding its health.

If you don’t have a pet yet, consider making one part of your family, but make sure you have the time and resources necessary to provide a stable loving home for your new friend. And when you take care of a pet you have to develop a routine of getting out, buying food and providing exercise.

Buying pet products online is a good alternative for those who would rather stay at home with their family or even their pets. The same is so if you are buying pet products for several pets.

Although not a primary concern for many (because they are not aware of the existing dangers), pet nutrition plays an important role in the care of an animal. Around 90% of Australian families with pets, consider those pets as fully integrated family members and the primary caregiver who assumes responsibility for the pet in the majority of situations is female.

A great way to find discounted pet products is via online stores. At some sites you can even establish a subscription service which allows you to have your favorite pet food and supplies automatically delivered to your door. You can even subscribe to monthly newsletters, which cover helpful pet care information and special announcements and promotions.
